What is an aimbot and do I need it in Escape from Tarkov?
If you're getting consistently killed almost instantly, especially with headshots or from angles where they shouldn't have seen you, there's a chance those players might be using cheats, possibly an aimbot or wallhacks (which let them see through walls). This can be highly frustrating, but what are these things and why are so many players using them?
Let's take a deeper dive into what they are, how they are used and what to do.
-
What is an aimbot?
An aimbot is a type of cheat or software used in shooting games that automatically aims at opponents for the player. It removes the need for manual aiming, giving the user an unfair advantage by locking onto enemies with perfect precision, often instantly.
Aimbots are commonly used in competitive online games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Fortnite and of course Escape From Tarkov, but they’re considered cheating and can lead to bans or account suspensions.
-
Why do you need an aimbot?
People use cheats like aimbots several reasons:
- To win easily – Some players just want to dominate without effort.
- To boost stats – They might care about looking good on leaderboards or social media.
- To troll or ruin games – Some enjoy making others angry.
- They're bad and insecure – So they cheat to feel powerful.
Dealing with an aimbot can be tough, especially since it can ruin the experience and feel totally unfair.

What to do against an aimbot user?
EFT has, like many other games such as Call of Duty or Apex Legends, built-in reporting tools.
- Use the killcam or scoreboard to select the player.
- Report for cheating or suspicious behavior.
EFT uses Battleye, which will flag repeated suspicious behavior.
Users can also get a “shadowban” or isolate cheaters into lobbies only with other cheaters.
Many modern games have AI systems that monitor reports and gameplay patterns.
Playing with trusted teammates increases your chances of coordinating and countering suspicious players. You can:
- Stick together to overwhelm one cheater.
- Bait and track their behavior for evidence.
Unfortunately as a player there is no way to deal with other aimbot users than using one yourself.

How to use an aimbot?
Aimbots in EFT are extremely easy to use. Most of our EFT cheats are equipped with an easy to use aimbot included. Most often the default settings are more than enough to ensure you hit your targets with ease, and many feature extensive customization to ensure it does not look obvious that you are cheating yourself.
The aimbot will automatically aim for the target, ensuring your gun is aimed correctly at your opponent, allowing for a clean and effective shot. Usually this is done by pressing the right-mouse-button to initiate the "aiming", allowing you to shoot whenever you want using the usual left-mouse-button.
FOV
Field of View, or FOV, is an area right in from of your character where the gun is aimed. Only enemies within this area will be targeted by the aimbot. The area is limited (usually to a small circle) to avoid that the aimbot will suddenly start aiming at an enemy that is in a totally different direction, which could be something you didn't intend at all. In some EFT hacks this circle is actually shown, in some it is hidden. In most cheats this FOV circle is customizable, where you can not only set the size (diameter) but also the distance limit, to avoid shooting through an entire map.
Smoothing
Smoothing, sometimes also called Sensitivity, is the setting that allows you to control how the gun is aimed towards your enemy. For example, without any smoothing the gun would "instantly" point at the enemy the moment you activate the aimbot, which could look suspicious for other players. A high smoothing would make it look like the gun is smoothly moved from the previous position towards the target, emulating a natural human movement, thus lessening suspicions.
Custom aimbone / hitbox / target
Some EFT cheats allow you to customize your target. In this case the target is obviously is one of your enemies, but more specifically it allows you to chose which "part" of your enemy to hit. For example, a lower level aimbot may always shoot at the head, which is effective but also easy to spot and even more easy to detect. However, by choosing unsuspicious body parts such as the lower leg, it may not be as effective but it will make it much less likely people suspect you from using an aimbot.
Custom aimkey
Often the Right-mouse-button is used as a trigger to activate the aimbot, making it aim at the target within your FOV. However, some EFT hacks allow you to change it to a more preferably key of your choice.
